Antiviral and antibacterial filters provide an easy way to ensure protection from cross-contamination, keeping both the subject and operator safe without compromising performance.
The use of filters during spirometry reduces the amount of aerosol droplets dispersed into the air, mitigating the contamination of the environment due to forced expirations and high ventilations during testing.
Preventing aerosol spread is essential for minimising infectious disease transmission.

This is most likely due to the turbine not being pushed all the way in or is connected in an incorrect orientation. Make sure the turbine is pushed entirely in with mesh side facing out of the front side of the spirometer.
Please refer to the user manual for instructions on proper flowmeter connection.
Our antibacterial filters are built with an anatomical mouthpiece, allowing blockage around the mouth to minimise leaks and dispersion from the sides of the mouth. They are also effective at filtering out bacteria and viruses to minimise contamination risk while maintaining accurate readings during a spirometry test.

This can be checked by performing a flowmeter verification. If the flowmeter verification passes, then it is recommended to perform the test again, ensuring that the set-up is correct according to ATS/ERS Guidelines for performing spirometry.
We offer several filters that are compatible with a range of spirometers of various brands.
30886 (Orange): Compatible with Viasys, Jaeger, Welch Allyn, and Medikro branded spirometers

The microQuark is a PC-based spirometer where you only need to plug the device into a laptop or computer to begin performing tests. The spirometer operates off the COSMED Omnia software, offering superior database management, and customisation for users of the device.
The turbine used with the device operates using infrared light emitters and a spinning blade that causes infrared light interruptions. The microQuark unit contains an optoelectronic reader to measure the flow rate based on the speed at which the turbine blades spin.

Try a different USB port on the computer; ensure there is a flashing green light on the spirometer itself. Restart the software, then try to perform another measurement.
Check device manager in Windows and ensure that it appears under 'Universal Serial Bus Devices'. If there is a yellow warning symbol, then there may be an issue with the drivers installed on your computer. Please contact us if you are experiencing this for a smooth resolution.
If both of these suggestions aren't yielding results, please also contact us for a potential service check of the spirometer.
Please refer to the ATS guidelines for spirometry here
This document contains recommendations by ATS for best practice regarding spirometry and calibration procedures.
At this current stage, the COSMED Australia website is primarily for purchasing our spirometry products, and accessories.
COSMED manufactures high-quality systems in a range of applications: lung function, metabolic, and body composition.
Lung function testing equipment that COSMED produces includes lung diffusion capacity, nitrogen washout, and thoracic gas volume.
Metabolic systems include exercise testing and resting energy expenditure systems. Exercise testing systems covers both stationary metabolic carts, portable or wearable metabolic systems.
Resting energy expenditure measurement systems include indirect calorimeters - both stationary and portable - utilising the practical gold-standard of canopy testing.
Body composition equipment offered by COSMED Asia-Pacific include an air displacement plethysmography system, measuring fat and fat-free mass accurately and reliably. COSMED Asia-Pacific also offers a Bioimpedance Analyser for measuring muscle mass, total body water, and fat mass.
